It’s so weird, and so true — and however worrying or annoying, to be expected. Our nervous system is much older than our sobriety… something about wiring together and firing together? Training trumps practice?
The first warm day of spring I was out riding bikes with my kids — and got hit with the strongest urge to ride to the brewery (something I did with my own parents for many years).
Thanks for normalizing what lives in our body. Having an urge doesn’t have to mean something bad is about to happen, it just means our bodies have wicked good memories, and we can trust our prefrontal cortex to sort out what we really want, what’s old, and what’s new and what’s actually happening now…
